Input Scan Raw Data Processed Data Pick List Match Predictor Schedule Analysis Pit Scouting

Welcome To Spyglass

If you are unfamiliar with this scouting tool, this introduction is intended to explain how to use it best independent of what you want out of it.

Starting very simply with general navigation of the tool, this is the central hub page and, at the top, contains links to other pages which provide access to the collected data as each link's title would imply. This is true for each button except for "explain" and “Change Team”, which should be present on every functional page. The "explain" button is intended to detail the specifics of each available button or setting on every page, though it's not always actually written or up-to-date so I'll do a general overview here as well."

You have likely already been met with a barrage of very intimidating alerts asking you for very specific information like your team, team password, and event code. The only one of these that matters is the team password, that can't really be updated unless you find me at the event, then I might be able to, but don't count on it. You can reset anything else, but team and event code are actually pretty helpful for schedule analysis or team specific data, so I would suggest setting that correctly if you want to make full use of the tool. Speaking of which, I wouldn’t suggest using this link at any other event that team 1058 is not at because I won’t pay money for this server, and I need to set up a backdoor for it to work well otherwise.

I would expect most teams using this will be doing so only to access the publicly available data, so I'll explain that first. The "Processed Data" and "Pick List" pages are the most useful for public data though "schedule analysis" and "match predictor" can also use this data as well. When accessing the data source for these pages, there will be a setting at the top of each page named "Pull From Public". It should default to green (On) which is what you would probably want if you and your team do not have saved data. It can also be blue (pulls public team data) and red (pulls data local to your device). The processed data page gives detailed insights on specific teams, and can analyze specific matches, but it takes a while to look up specific teams so general/relative searches should be done in "picklist". Picklist analyzes every team by certain metrics and ranks them by those metrics, defaults to meta average (meta is different from normal because it accounts for fed balls using a weird formula that makes sense, trust), but you can sort however you want by clicking on the top of the column of interest. Please note it is never a good way to generate an absolute picklist, it’s just a good starting point, and it does not define what teams are “good” or “bad”

If you want to actually use the tool to create, store, and maybe share your own data, that's absolutely an option but it is a lot more complicated and would reasonably require a good bit of explanation. I also wouldn't expect many teams planning on scouting to lack a system for it, but just in case, here goes. One can use either the "input" page or the static website at input.spyglassscouting.com to generate qr codes representing a team's data (this feature was heavily inspired by 2713, so many thanks to them, it's pretty sick). Then those qrs must be scanned by an endpoint (this website on the scan page) and published publicly in raw data to be available to the whole team. If you are publishing public data please try to ensure its accuracy within a reasonable range (I know this game is hard, just try) because it just ruins it for everyone else if you don't. If you have any questions about Spyglass, I’m more than willing to help, but please don’t look for me in the pits, I will almost always be in the stands and those in the pit will not be able to help you find me.
